People and Population
Tokyo is the most populated city in the world with roughly over 37.8 million people living in the the Tokyo Metropolitan. The reason why there are so many people is because of the merging of Tokyo and the Metropolitan Prefecture to create the mega city of Tokyo Metropolitan.
The Change and Growth of the Population of Tokyo
Tokyo has been plagued by war and natural disasters since the start of recorded history but has managed to have a level increase of population because of the amount of people living in the Tokyo area. The 23 wards area has not grown much in population because it has no room to expand and is home to the richest people in Tokyo. The surrounding area's however have expanded by huge amounts because it has room to grow.
Tokyo is expected to almost halve in population in the next 90 years because of strict birth rates and a greying population. By the time the population has declined almost 39% of the population will be 65 years or older
Housing
Housing is actually not a problem in Japan and there is enough housing for everyone but because all of the better paying jobs being near the city centre no one wants to live on the outskirts because it is so far away from Tokyo CBD. Even with a smaller number living on the edges of Tokyo there are huge congestion problems with traffic and trains. This is leading to buildings growing taller near the centre of the city as the only to pack more people in is to put them on top of eachother.
